Activation of GRP receptors results in inhibition of cAMP production and activation of K+ channels. Anti-GRP serum is a research tool that can be used to identify and characterize GRP receptors by blocking their ability to bind endogenous ligands. This inhibitor has been shown to inhibit peptides that are inhibitors for ion channels, such as the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor and the glycine receptor. The anti-GRP serum also binds to antibodies raised against the peptide sequence of GRP, which may be used to identify these proteins in immunoblots or Western blots.
