Beschreibung

2',3'-Dideoxy-3'-fluoroguanosine is a prodrug that is rapidly converted to its active form, 2',3'-dideoxy-3'-fluoro-guanosine (ddFdG), in vivo. The antiviral activity of ddFdG is due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of viral DNA by competing with deoxyribonucleosides for incorporation into the growing strand of viral DNA. ddFdG has been shown to be effective against hepatitis B virus and murine sarcoma virus in vitro and in vivo. It has also been shown to be active against HIV infection, inhibiting human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) replication at an inhibitory dose. The mechanism of action may involve ddFdG binding to the viral reverse transcriptase enzyme, which is required for the production of RNA from DNA.
