It has been shown to be an activator for DNA polymerases and is able to inhibit the replication of DNA in vitro. It also has antiviral properties, as it inhibits the synthesis of viral RNA. 5'-O-DMT-5-[N-(6-(trifluoroacetamido)hexyl)-3-E-acrylamido]-2'-deoxyuridine also has anti-inflammatory effects, as it inhibits prostaglandin synthesis.
