It is a phosphoramidate prodrug of the natural compound deoxyuridine monophosphate (dUMP). 2',3'-Dideoxyuridine-5'-O-monothiophosphate has been shown to be active against human papilloma virus and to inhibit the replication of some DNA viruses, including herpes simplex virus, cytomegalovirus, and Epstein-Barr Virus. This drug has also been shown to have anticancer activity in vitro and in vivo.
