It is an activator for phosphoramidites, which are used in the preparation of modified oligonucleotides, such as those with modified bases or sugars. 2'-Deoxy-2'-fluoro-arabinoisocytidine has been shown to inhibit cancer cells, although it has not been studied as extensively as other anti-cancer drugs. This drug also inhibits the replication of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) by inhibiting reverse transcriptase activity. 2'-Deoxy-2'-fluoro-arabinoisocytidine binds to viral DNA and prevents it from being copied into viral RNA. This nucleoside also has antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1).
