• Beschreibung: Pilsicainide is an antiarrhythmic drug that belongs to the class of phenylalkylamines. It is used in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, such as atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. Pilsicainide works by blocking the voltage-gated sodium ion channels in the heart, which prevents rapid changes in membrane potential and reduces the likelihood of a reoccurrence of arrhythmias. The drug is also used for bowel disease, where it has been shown to be effective against diseases such as diverticulitis and inflammatory bowel disease. However pilsicainide should not be used for this purpose due to its potential for causing severe side effects such as blood sampling or fibrillation. Pilsicainide is also known to interact with other drugs, namely those that affect locomotor activity or urination (e.g., chlorpromazine).
