Methyl 1-Boc-3-ethylpiperidine-3-carboxylate is an antimicrobial agent that belongs to the group of quaternary ammonium compounds. It is a chain, n-alkyl compound with a methyl and an ethyl group attached to the nitrogen atom. Methyl 1-Boc-3-ethylpiperidine-3-carboxylate inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting biosynthesis of cell wall and protein synthesis. This drug also has activity against fungi, such as Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans. Methyl 1-Boc-3-ethylpiperidine 3 carboxylate may be effective in treating infections caused by bacteria resistant to other antibiotics because it is not affected by microbial resistance mechanisms such as beta lactamase or quinolone resistance.
