Beschreibung

Gadavist is a gadolinium-based contrast agent that is used in radiology to visualize the brain and other organs. Gadavist is injected intravenously and accumulates in the tissues, where it can be detected by MRI. Gadavist has been shown to be safe for use in humans at doses up to 7.5 mg/kg, and has been approved for use in Europe. The mechanism of action of gadobutrol is not fully understood, but it is thought that gadobutrol binds to mitochondria, which affects their membrane potential.

Gadobutrol has been shown to have no effect on liver function and does not interact with drugs metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes or with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors. It also interacts weakly with proteins in plasma, including albumin and transferrin, although this interaction does not affect its distribution or elimination from the body.
