2',3'-O-Isopropylideneguanosine is a labile nucleoside that has been synthesized by the dehydration of guanosine. It is used as a precursor to produce 2',3'-O-isopropylidene-5'-deoxyguanosine, which is an activated nucleotide that can be incorporated into DNA in place of guanine. This synthesis has shown an increase in the stability of DNA and resistance to uv irradiation and diisopropylcarbodiimide. 2',3'-O-Isopropylideneguanosine is also used in the production of purines, which are important for cellular metabolism and play a role in the biosynthesis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). The molecule consists of a tetrazole ring attached to an ethyl group with an amino function at one end and a cyanamide at the other.
