• Beschreibung: N-Acyl-neuraminyl lactoses are a class of modified N-glycosides that can be synthesized from monosaccharides, such as glucose and galactose. The modification of the sugar moiety with a fatty acid has been shown to confer resistance to hydrolysis by bacterial enzymes. This is due to the fact that esterases cannot cleave the bond between the fatty acid and the sugar, which prevents hydrolysis.The synthesis of these compounds is achieved through an oxidative process using sodium hypochlorite in methanol solution. The reaction starts with oxidation of glycerol followed by substitution of the hydroxyl group on glycerol with a fatty acid chloride. The final product is then purified by liquid chromatography.
