Ethyl heptadecanoate is a fatty acid that is used in the production of biofuels and industrial chemicals. It is obtained by the reaction of hexane with ethyl decanoate, and can be processed through a number of techniques to produce fatty alcohols, fatty acids, or biodiesel. Ethyl heptadecanoate has been shown to have anticancer activity in clinical studies. This compound inhibits tyrosine kinase activity, which may be responsible for its cytotoxic effects on cancer cells.
