Produktinformation
- Benzoic Acid, 2,6-Dimethyl-, Methyl Ester
2,6-Dimethylbenzoic acid methyl ester is a dipole that can be characterized by its mechanistic properties. It is soluble in organic solvents such as dimethylformamide and mesomeric in aqueous solutions. 2,6-Dimethylbenzoic acid methyl ester has been shown to have an interaction with protonation, which causes the dipole to be deprotonated or protonated. Additionally, the phenyl groups on this dipole make it susceptible to demethylation at high temperatures. This compound was synthesized by heating benzoate with formaldehyde in the presence of sodium methoxide. The resulting reaction product is 2,6-dimethylbenzoic acid methyl ester.
