2-Cyclopropylaminonicotinic acid is a medication that is used to treat HIV. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of HIV and AIDS. 2-Cyclopropylaminonicotinic acid inhibits the reverse transcriptase enzyme, which is responsible for the conversion of viral RNA into DNA. This drug binds to the active site of the enzyme and blocks its activity. 2-Cyclopropylaminonicotinic acid also inhibits the activity of other enzymes involved in viral replication including covalent adducts with chloride and fluorine, which are necessary for viral maturation. This drug binds to both human and simian immunodeficiency virus (HIV) with similar affinities, but it does not inhibit any other type of virus tested.
