This inhibition may be due to steric interactions with the acyl chain, which binds to the enzyme in a similar manner as substrates. 07:0 PC (DHPC) also seems to bind more tightly than substrates, which may explain its inhibitory properties. 07:0 PC (DHPC) has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on fatty acid synthase and other enzymes involved in ATP production. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy has revealed that 07:0 PC (DHPC) is bound to phosphate groups, which are important for enzymatic activity.
