Nickel(II) benzenesulfonate hexahydrate is an organic solvent that can be used as a bidentate ligand. It can also be used to reduce the redox potential of potassium ion in a heterogeneous or homogenous chemical reaction system. Nickel(II) benzenesulfonate hexahydrate has been shown to form stable complexes with c1-6 alkyl and organometallic compounds. The solubility of nickel(II) benzenesulfonate hexahydrate is dependent on the crystal system, which may be triclinic, monoclinic, or orthorhombic. Nickel(II) benzenesulfonate hexahydrate is also known to react with phosphite to form nickel phosphite. This compound is often found in cellulose acetate products due to its ability to stabilize the cellulose acetate polymer by forming complexes with its reactive groups such as hydroxyl groups
