It is effective against tapeworms and other helminths, such as Ascaris, Trichuris, and Enterobius. Hexanamidine hydrochloride has been shown to have anthelmintic activity in both animals and humans, but it has not been tested in veterinary medicine. The drug inhibits the growth of parasites by interfering with their metabolism or by blocking the release of histamine. Hexanamidine hydrochloride also prevents the development of eggs in female worms and prevents fertilization in male worms.
