4-(Benzyloxy)-2-fluorobenzoic acid is a liquid crystal that crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c. It has a melting point at 176°C and a boiling point of 265°C. 4-(Benzyloxy)-2-fluorobenzoic acid is soluble in alcohol, ether, chloroform, benzene, acetone, and carbon tetrachloride. It can be used as a fluorinating agent to make monomers for fluoroacrylate adhesives or as an intermediate for synthesizing other organic compounds. 4-(Benzyloxy)-2-fluorobenzoic acid can be purified by recrystallization from methanol or by passing it through silica gel.
