2-Chloro-6-phenyl-4-(trifluoromethyl)nicotinonitrile (2CPTN) is a nitrile that can be prepared from the reaction of hexamethylphosphoric acid and chlorine. 2CPTN has shown strong azido and triamide groups, which are useful for amination reactions. X-ray diffraction studies have been performed on 2CPTN, with diffraction obtained at various wavelengths. The x-ray diffraction data was analyzed using the Rietveld method, which allowed for the determination of the crystal structure. Results showed that 2CPTN has a mixed trigonal planar and tetragonal structure with chlorine atoms occupying positions in both trigonal planes.
