Beschreibung:9-(3-Hydroxypropoxy)guanine is an aldehyde oxidase inhibitor that blocks the production of formaldehyde, which is a reactive metabolite that can cause DNA damage. 9-(3-Hydroxypropoxy)guanine has been shown to inhibit the oxidation of purines in incubations with c1-6 alkyl. It also inhibits the oxidation of guanine and deoxyguanine mediated by aldehyde oxidase. This drug is a prodrug, which is converted to its active form in the cytosol by cytochrome p450 enzymes. The metabolic transformation of 9-(3-hydroxypropoxy)guanine into its active form occurs primarily in hepatocytes. 9-(3-Hydroxypropoxy)guanine has been shown to be effective against oxidative stress induced by homogenates and liver cells from humans, as well as cytosolic extracts from human hepatocytes.
