Sibiricose A1 is a triterpenoid compound that is extracted from ethanol extracts of the roots of Camphorosma monspeliaca. This compound has been shown to have anti-inflammatory activity, and has also been found to inhibit cancer cell growth in vitro. Sibiricose A1 induces apoptosis by a pro-apoptotic mechanism in PC12 cells and inhibits the expression of Bcl-2 in colon cancer cells. It also has an effect on the expression of pro-survival proteins such as Bcl-xL, caspase 3 and XIAP. Sibiricose A1 also inhibits the proliferation of human colorectal adenocarcinoma cells in vivo through inhibition of DNA synthesis and cell cycle progression.
