Beschreibung

Glucagon is a peptide hormone that is used to treat severe hypoglycemia. It is synthesized in the alpha cells of the pancreas and released when glucose levels fall too low. Glucagon binds to a receptor on liver cells, causing them to convert stored glycogen into glucose. This hormone also has an effect on insulin production by the beta cells of the pancreas, increasing it in response to low blood sugar levels.
