Beschreibung

D-(-)-Pantolactone is a reaction solution that is used in analytical methods for the determination of calcium pantothenate in pharmaceutical preparations. D-(-)-Pantolactone reacts with an analyte to form a complex, which can be detected by its characteristic fluorescence. D-(-)-Pantolactone is also used to synthesize pantolactone, a molecule that has been shown to suppress bacterial growth through inhibition of protein synthesis. In addition, the hydroxyl group on D-(-)-pantolactone's ring structure provides protection against reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS). This compound has been studied as an anti-inflammatory agent and an antibiotic.
