Beschreibung

Ganciclovir is an antiviral drug that is used in combination with other drugs to treat certain types of cancer and infections. It is a prodrug that has to be activated by phosphorylation in order to inhibit viral DNA synthesis. Ganciclovir inhibits the activity of the viral enzyme, DNA polymerase, which leads to inhibition of virus replication. This process can be modelled using a reaction solution containing HbV-DNA and a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) model system. The concentration-time curve for ganciclovir shows that at concentrations above 0.1 μM, there is an increase in the amount of HbV-dna. This suggests that ganciclovir may be effective against HIV and opportunistic fungal infections as well as T-cell lymphomas.
