Beschreibung

Ninhydrin is a chemical that reacts with basic amino acids to form diazo compounds. It is used in the analysis of protein, amino acid, and carbohydrate content in biological samples. Ninhydrin is also used as a reagent in the detection of disulfide bonds. The reaction between ninhydrin and cystine forms a red compound called azo-bis-cystine. This reaction can be used to differentiate between different types of fibroblasts based on their ability to produce disulfide bonds. Ninhydrin has been shown to be an excellent model system for studying the enzymatic activities of proteins. Ninhydrin is usually dissolved in sodium carbonate or sodium citrate before being added to the sample.
