Beschreibung

3,5-Dimethyloctane is a byproduct of the oxidation of isovaleric acid in the presence of air. It has been shown to have probiotic effects on bacteria that can be used for the production of protein and other molecules. 3,5-Dimethyloctane has also been found to inhibit the accumulation of β amyloid peptides in cells and improve memory performance in animal models with Alzheimer's disease. This product has been used as a chromatographic stationary phase for analytical methods such as gas chromatography and liquid chromatography. 3,5-Dimethyloctane also inhibits glutamate dehydrogenase, which is an enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of glutamate to α-ketoglutarate. In addition to this, it binds to glycyrrhiza uralensis and prevents its transport out of cells. 3,5-Dimethyloctane can also be used as a diluent for particles during atomic force microscopy or scanning electron microscopy work
