It can be used as an additive to lubricating oils and fuels. 4-(Carboxymethyl)phenylboronic acid has been shown to inhibit the corrosion of lead in hydrochloric acid solutions. This compound has also been shown to inhibit the formation of silicon-sulfide complexes in polystyrene and polyvinyl chloride.
