(’)-Indolactam V is a fluorescent derivative of indole. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of carcinoma cell lines and is a competitive inhibitor of the enzyme β-lactamase. (’)-Indolactam V has also been found to have antiproliferative effects on pluripotent cells, such as human embryonic kidney cells. The reaction mechanism for (’)-indolactam V is not known at this time, but it may be due to its ability to bind to protein kinase A. This compound also inhibits rat liver microsomes and amide kinases with high affinity in vitro.
