4,7-Dimethoxy-1-naphthaldehyde is a pentafluorophenyl phenyldiamine dye that has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of DNA topoisomerase. It is a monomeric dye with fluorescence properties and can be used in the detection of cancer cells. The molecular structure of 4,7-Dimethoxy-1-naphthaldehyde consists of five carbon atoms and seven hydrogen atoms. This molecule has unpaired electrons and can exist in two different configurations: cis (Z) and trans (E). The trans configuration is more stable than the cis configuration, which leads to a lower reactivity with DNA topoisomerase. 4,7-Dimethoxy-1-naphthaldehyde inhibits cancer cell growth by binding to DNA in the minor groove, which blocks the replication process.
