NSC 5844 has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of endothelial cells in vitro and in vivo, and this activity is mediated through inhibition of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) receptor tyrosine kinase. This drug also blocks tumor growth in animal models by inhibiting angiogenesis.
