It also has been shown to inhibit the growth of methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus, leishmania, and trichophyton mentagrophytes. 5-HR inhibits fibroblast growth and lysis by binding to the lipid bilayer of the cell membrane. This leads to a disruption in the membrane potential, which eventually causes cell death.
