Beschreibung

Fosmidomycin is a sesquiterpene lactone that inhibits the growth of malaria parasites. It has been shown to inhibit the in vitro growth of wild-type strains of falciparum. Fosmidomycin is also effective against plasmodium strains resistant to other antimalarial drugs, such as chloroquine and artemisinin. Fosmidomycin acts by inhibiting synthesis of dinucleotide phosphate (dNTP), which is required for DNA replication and protein synthesis. The clinical efficacy of fosmidomycin has been demonstrated in experimental models and model systems. Fosmidomycin has been shown to be an effective agent for the treatment of infectious diseases caused by bacteria, fungi, viruses, and protozoa.
