Beschreibung

Atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) is a peptide hormone that was originally isolated from the human heart. It reduces blood pressure by increasing sodium excretion in the kidneys and stimulates production of vasodilator prostaglandins. ANF is a 28-amino acid polypeptide with a molecular weight of 3,000 daltons. ANF has been shown to be effective in reducing high blood pressure in patients with congestive heart failure who are taking beta-blockers or ACE inhibitors. ANF also has biocompatible properties and can be administered through an implanted device that slowly releases the protein over time. The release of ANF is controlled by a constant pressure mechanism that maintains a constant concentration of ANF in the blood stream.
