• Beschreibung: Biotin-maleimide is a biotin conjugate that has been shown to bind to the amino acid residues in the active site of DNA polymerase. It inhibits the synthesis of DNA by competitively inhibiting the binding of tetracycline to the bacterial ribosome. This antibiotic is used in model systems and has been shown to be active against Proteus vulgaris, Escherichia coli K-12, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Biotin-maleimide also inhibits prostaglandin production by binding to cyclooxygenase, which prevents activation of prostaglandin synthase. Biotin-maleimide has been shown to inhibit inflammation in animal models as well as reduce acid formation in human cells. The drug is used for treatment of autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis or Crohn's disease.
