It is an anticholinergic drug that can be used to treat chronic depression. Desisopropyl disopyramide binds to two different sites on the enzyme p-450 and inhibits the metabolism of drugs such as benzodiazepines and tricyclic antidepressants. Desisopropyl disopyramide has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on activated muscarinic receptors in animal models, but not in humans. This drug also has anti-cholinergic effects and is used for the treatment of pediatric patients with spasticity.
