Carbonylhydridotris(triphenylphosphine)iridium(I) is a catalyst that has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the hydrogenation of ethane. The inhibition may be due to the formation of a reversible complex with the proton donor (dimethylformamide). The kinetic analysis revealed the existence of two isomers: one with a high constant and another with a low constant. Irradiation of carbonylhydridotris(triphenylphosphine)iridium(I), which would lead to decomposition, led to the formation of an isomeric mixture.
