Disodium sebacate is a white, crystalline solid that is soluble in water and ethanol. It has been used as a plasticizer for polyvinyl chloride, which is used in the production of many plastics. Disodium sebacate also has an affinity for fatty acids and can be used to remove fatty acids from animal tissue. It has been shown to inhibit liver lesions in mice, but not when the animals are given ethylene diamine. The solubility of disodium sebacate can be increased by adding benzoic acid or sodium citrate.
