Beschreibung:
2-Hydroxy-3-(prop-2-en-1-yl)benzoic acid (HOPBA) is a ligand that binds to the hydroxybenzoic acid site on the enzyme salicylic acid synthase. This interaction prevents the synthesis of salicylic acid, which is necessary for plant growth and development. HOPBA has been shown to bind to other sites on the enzyme and may act as an allosteric inhibitor. HOPBA and its analogs have been used as pesticides in agriculture, with some success. More research is needed to determine if this compound can be used as a probe for other hydroxybenzoic acid binding sites or as a synopses in other reactions.
