(S)-2-Amino-5-oxo-5-(2,2,2-trichloroethoxy)pentanoic acid is a glutamic acid derivative that has been shown to inhibit transcriptional regulation by binding to the α subunit of the l-glutamic acid receptor. The inhibition of transcriptional regulation by (S)-2-amino-5-oxo-5-(2,2,2-trichloroethoxy)pentanoic acid occurs at an optimum concentration of 10 micromolar and is reversible. This drug also inhibits the transfer reactions of nucleotides in DNA synthesis. (S)-2-Amino-5-(2,2,2 trichloroethoxy) pentanoic acid has been shown to have no effect on the protein synthesis in wild type cells but does inhibit protein synthesis in mutant cells.
