Beschreibung

Herboxidiene is an asymmetric synthesis of the natural product herboxidine. It is a potent inhibitor of ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1), which mediates cholesterol export from cells. This drug has potential to be used as a therapeutic against cancer, HIV infection and other risk groups. Herboxidiene also inhibits the binding of growth factor to its receptors, preventing proliferation. The hydroxyl group on the molecule makes it susceptible to oxidation by oxidoreductases such as cytochrome P450 reductase and glutathione reductase. This susceptibility can be used for chemical biology applications such as metabolic profiling or identification of active metabolites.
