Peroxiredoxin inhibitor, Conoidin A is a reagent that inhibits peroxiredoxin. It is a reactive chemical that has been shown to have cytotoxic effects in vitro and in vivo. Peroxiredoxin inhibitors are used in biochemical studies to determine the effect of increased oxidative stress on the cell. The inhibition of tumor growth by Conoidin A has been demonstrated in vivo using xenograft tumor models, which are transplanted into mice. This reagent also induces neuronal death and has been shown to bind to epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). Conoidin A also has antimicrobial properties against bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.
