1,3-Bis(3-chloropropyl)-1,1,3,3-tetramethyldisiloxane is an ionic compound that can be used as a catalyst for the hydrolysis of methanol. The molecule consists of two ethylene groups and three chloride groups. 1,3-Bis(3-chloropropyl)-1,1,3,3-tetramethyldisiloxane has been shown to catalyze the reaction between 1-methylimidazole and palladium in the presence of chloride ions to form a PdCl2 complex. This complex can then react with water to produce hydrogen gas and palladium chloride. The crystal structure of this compound was determined using X-ray diffraction techniques and found to be an oligomerization product.
