It is used in devices such as electroluminescent devices to produce light. 3,9'-Bicarbazole has been shown to transport electrons with quantum efficiency of 100% at temperatures from -20°C to +50°C. This compound has also been shown to be a good acceptor for the luminescent material trimethyl aluminum.
