Fast Red RC salt is a colorant that is used to stain biological samples for microscopy. It works by binding to nucleic acids and proteins, which makes them visible under a microscope. Fast Red RC salt is activated with ultraviolet light or diazonium salt, which causes the dye to bind to nucleic acids and proteins in cells. The dye binds to phosphatase enzymes, which helps it penetrate cell membranes and enter the nucleus of the cell. There it binds to DNA, RNA, and protein molecules inside the nucleus.
