Beschreibung

Cilostamide is a drug that inhibits the phosphodiesterase type 3 (PDE3) enzyme, which is responsible for breaking down cyclic nucleotides. It has been shown to have an effect on mitochondrial membrane potential and to inhibit the activation of c-jun in vitro. Cilostamide has also been shown to be effective in the treatment of bowel diseases, such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. In addition, it has been shown to reduce cardiac effects caused by atrial fibrillation. This drug also has an effect on the heart's electrical activity and can be used as a treatment for congestive heart failure. Cilostamide blocks PDE3, which increases intracellular cyclic AMP levels and reduces blood pressure by inhibiting the release of norepinephrine from nerve endings in blood vessels. This drug may be useful in treating diabetes mellitus type 2 because it increases glucose uptake by muscle cells, which improves insulin sensitivity.
