Leuconolam is an anticancer compound that contains a carbonyl group, a monoterpenoid indole alkaloid, and functional groups. It has been used as a synthetic analogue of the natural product leucocin. Leuconolam has been shown to be effective against cancer in mice with leukemia. This drug also has shown activity against other types of cancer cells in vitro. Leuconolam inhibits the biosynthesis of DNA by binding to the enzyme topoisomerase II, inhibiting topoisomerase II-mediated dsDNA cleavage and preventing strand separation.
