• Beschreibung: Tert-butyl β-carboline-3-carboxylate is a GABAergic drug that binds to the benzodiazepine receptor and has been shown to be a nonselective antagonist. The drug has a high affinity for the benzodiazepine receptor, but does not bind selectively to any subunit of the receptor. Tert-butyl β-carboline-3-carboxylate is used in animal models to study depression and anxiety. It increases the release of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the ventral tegmental area and decreases locomotor activity in wild type mice, but has no effect on these behaviors in mice with a mutation in GABA receptors. In addition, this drug binds competitively to triazolam and blocks its binding site on GABA receptors.
