(1±,3±,5±)-1,3,5-Cyclohexanetricarbonitrile (CAT) is a molecule that has three stereoisomers. The trimethyl and methyl groups on the 1 and 3 positions can be in either of two orientations, yielding six possible isomers. CAT is used as a solvent in organic synthesis. It also acts as a catalyst for the conversion of nitriles to carboxylates. CAT is able to catalyze the reaction between trimethyl acrylate and formamide to produce N-methylformamide, which can then be used as an intermediate in other syntheses. CAT has been shown to have absorption spectroscopic properties when it reacts with ultraviolet light.
