CO 101244 prevents the activation of NaVs by blocking the pore with a high affinity. The drug prevents neuronal death by inhibiting glutamate release from astrocytes and reduces inflammatory bowel disease in animal models. It also inhibits the migration of leukocytes to sites of inflammation and suppresses cytokine production. CO 101244 has been shown to be safe for human use when injected intramuscularly as a solution at doses up to 1 mg/kg.
