2-(2-((5-(Thiophen-2-yl)isoxazol-3-yl)methoxy)acetamido)-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrobenzo[b]thiophene-3-carboxamide is a potent and selective inhibitor of the voltage-gated sodium channels which are involved in the generation and propagation of action potentials in excitable cells. It inhibits the activity of these channels by binding to the extracellular domain of their alpha subunit. The affinity of 2-(2-((5-(Thiophen-2-yl)isoxazol-3-yl)methoxy)acetamido)-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrobenzo[b]thiophene 3 carboxamide for its target is about 100 times greater than for other ion channels such as potassium channels. This compound has been shown to be effective against chronic pain
