The two isomeric forms of dimethyl thiazolidine-2,4-dicarboxylate are called the S and R compounds. The S and R compounds have the same molecular formula but differ in the arrangement of their atoms. The S and R compounds also have different conformations and react differently with other molecules. Dimethyl thiazolidine-2,4-dicarboxylate can convert from one form to another by a process called interconversion. This conversion occurs when there is a change in temperature or pressure or when it reacts with another molecule.
